My Moving Home by Rogers Otieno

SYNOPSIS: A story inspired by the upbringing of Rogers Donatus Otieno who moved from his grandparents’ rural home to the urban community of Eastlands, Nairobi. Rogers has to make a choice between protecting his closest friend and his high school love.

SYNOPSIS: The performance intertwines the contemporary story of Mbodze and Muyeye with the ancient migration mythology of the Mjikenda peoples of the Kenyan Coast, known as the stories of “The Broken Pot”. Through a mixture of drama, dance and music, Shungwaaya examines the links between our mythical past and our modern lives.

SYNOPSIS: Created by the Performance Development Group in Kisumu, under the leadership of Rogers Otieno. The piece is set during the period of post-election violence in Kisumu (2008) and tells a personal and communal story through dynamic action, song and comic observation.

Are We Free Yet?

SYNOPSIS Featuring the play “Are We Here Yet?” by Joshua Muraya which tells the story of two Mau Mau fighters who have remained in the forest; it also features original music and dance by Melissa Ommeh and Ruth Maingi.
